a reading at aerial: the eternal party
thursday 30 november
18:30—20:00

aerial’s october artist in residence maike statz invites you to an evening reading of her text the eternal party: illusion and transgression in the vampire club scene. you are welcome to bring your own haunting texts or stories along to share if you wish. there will be red drinks and snacks provided.

about: the eternal party
vampire-owned clubs or club-spaces populated by immortal supernatural beings are a recurring trope in film and popular culture. from the nightclubs club blood in blade (1998), and club hel in the matrix revolutions (2003); to the stripclubs after dark in vamp! (1986) and titty twister in from dusk til dawn (1996); to the satirical take on vampire clubs the big kumara in what we do in the shadows (2014); hedonistic vampires are everywhere. so, as we enter the vampire club scene, or more specifically club blood in blade, let’s reflect on what social, material, and technological structures lie behind the affinity of vampires to club spaces, and the relationship between immortality and transgression. in looking at the club scenes of these creatures of the night, we might learn about our own mortal-dominant cultural and social attitudes to pleasure.

about: maike statz
maike statz (she/hun) is a bergen-based interior architect and artist interested in the relationship between bodies and space, understanding how architecture influences emotions, behaviour, individual and community identities and vice versa. her practice spans curation, design, writing, publishing and installation. for a while she has been interested in fictional spaces—imaginary architectures built in the genres of science fiction and fantasy literature—seeing the gaps that open in comparing fictional worlds to lived reality as revealing.
